Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is Qincha Bamboo?
Qincha Bambú is a studio specializing in the use of bamboo as a primary material to create architecture, furniture and artistic installations. Our motto, "Art through bamboo" , reflects our passion for transforming this versatile and sustainable material into functional and aesthetic works.
Why choose bamboo as a material?
Bamboo is a sustainable, durable and versatile material. It grows quickly, is renewable and has a much lower carbon footprint compared to other materials such as wood or steel. In addition, its natural beauty and flexibility allow us to create unique and long-lasting designs.
What services does Qincha Bambú offer?
We offer:
- Bamboo architecture : Design and construction of structures such as cabins, pavilions and public spaces.
- Furniture : Creating custom furniture, from chairs and tables to shelves and beds.
- Art installations : Design and installation of ephemeral or permanent works of art using bamboo.
- Technical advice : Consulting for projects that integrate bamboo in their design and construction.
Is bamboo strong and durable?
Absolutely! Bamboo is known for its high tensile and compressive strength, comparable to steel in some cases. With proper treatment, bamboo can last for decades, withstanding harsh weather conditions and maintaining its beauty.
What makes Qincha Bambú unique?
Our team seamlessly blends design and engineering. This allows us to create parts and structures that are not only aesthetically stunning, but also functional and viable. Everything we design, we can build.
How is bamboo treated to ensure its durability?
We use traditional and modern techniques to treat bamboo, such as air drying, immersion in borax and boric acid solutions, and natural coatings. This ensures that the material is resistant to pests, moisture and fungi.
Do you offer custom designs?
Yes, of course! At Qincha Bambú, we love collaborating with our clients to create unique designs that fit their needs and tastes. Whether it's a piece of furniture, an architectural structure, or an art installation, we work with you to make your vision a reality. We offer custom design services to meet our clients' specific needs and preferences.
What is the process to start a project with Qincha?
The process begins with an initial consultation and questionnaire to understand your needs. We then develop a preliminary concept, followed by detailed design and the creation of construction drawings. Finally, our team handles manufacturing, construction and installation. We work closely with you at every stage to ensure the end result meets your expectations.
What types of bamboo do you use in your products?
We use several species of bamboo, selected for their durability, aesthetics and sustainability. Each species is chosen based on the requirements of the specific project. Some of the species we use include Guadua angustifolia and Phyllostachys edulis , known for their strength and flexibility.
How do you maintain bamboo?
Bamboo is a durable and easy-to-maintain material. We recommend cleaning the pieces regularly with a damp cloth and applying bamboo oil to maintain their shine and protect the surface. In addition, we use treatment techniques such as air drying and immersion in borax and boric acid solutions to ensure their resistance to pests, moisture and fungi.
How long does it take to complete a project?
Delivery times vary depending on the complexity and scope of the project. For furniture, it can be 2-8 weeks, while architectural structures or art installations can take several months. We always provide an estimated timeline at the start of each project.
Do you offer workshops or training on the use of bamboo?
Although our main focus is the creation of bamboo projects (architecture, furniture and art installations), in collaboration with partners and experts, we occasionally organize workshops and trainings on the use of bamboo. These workshops cover topics such as cultivation, treatment, design and construction with bamboo. Follow us on our social media to stay up to date with our upcoming activities!
What inspires Qincha Bambú’s designs?
Our designs are inspired by nature, culture and innovation. We seek to fuse tradition with modernity, creating pieces that are not only functional, but also works of art that tell a story.
What kind of projects have you done so far?
We have worked on a wide range of projects, from eco-cabins and meditation pavilions to contemporary designer furniture and monumental sculptures. Each project is a new opportunity to explore the possibilities of bamboo.
Can bamboo be left outdoors? How long does it last in those conditions?
Bamboo can be left outdoors, but this is not recommended, since, like all organic materials, when exposed to the sun and rain it creates an environment conducive to its degradation. However, in some projects we use bamboo outdoors, such as in facades in the form of cans, which helps to prolong its life compared to round bamboo, which tends to store water inside and can rot more quickly.
For outdoor exposure, it is essential to carry out periodic maintenance with specific protectors for bamboo, such as stains or oils. It is recommended to apply these treatments at least once a year after the work is put into service. In areas of high exposure, where the weather conditions are more aggressive, maintenance must be carried out more frequently.
With good maintenance, an outdoor bamboo skin can last a minimum of 5 years. We have seen this in projects that have remained outdoors for longer periods without problems. On the other hand, an unmaintained skin can deteriorate in a maximum of 4 years.
